Actually Useful AI: File Renamer
Anyone else have big folders or downloads? Files? Images? Let's clean that up.
I save everything. Way, way too many things. I could probably open an art expo called “variations on a screenshot.” While working on other projects, it occurred to me that I could
Have a model scan images and rename the files, and
Scrape files with text in them (word, PDF, text, source code …) and feed it to a different model
Finally, standardize filenames for things I can’t scrape (like .zip or even .dmg)
It’s wildly useful; I probably spent two hours building this and it’s saved me twenty hours of time.
You can run this absolutely for free.
There’s a bit of technical knowledge involved regarding opening up and using the terminal. There’s also a bit of a hardware requirement; for best results, your computer should have 16gb of RAM; 8gb is acceptable, 4gb works, and below that I’m sorry to say you’ll be renaming things yourself.
That said, you can also use my server if you’d like; it’s the exact same model as the alt text generator, it just uses it very intensely. I’m sorry to say I can’t make this tool entirely free with the cloud service, but the $5 key comes with Patreon and Substack as well - and vice versa! Just pick whichever platform you’re most used to seeing, and I’ll send you the credentials to use the rest.
Subscribers: Your license key will be at the end of the email!
For the nerds: Have at it! The downloads are on the page linked above. I haven’t posted a repository of the source code yet, but I will over the weekend and my. model is here. All of the model settings can be overridden - let me know what you’re able to improve, and for everyone: let me know what you’d like me to add!
Want to use it without dealing with all of that? Use one of these:
Happy Friday!
All of my care and love to you as we enter the next week; have a great weekend, and I’ll be in touch again soon -
