I was a bit surprised yesterday to see all the news about DeepSeek, which has now rocked world markets with its app launch. I’ve actually been using their open-source models for accessibility-related contract solutions for some time now. By a small coincidence, I was fiddling with a switch-accessible interface for it when I first saw the news. Good thing I wasn’t invested in Nvidia—otherwise, I might have stopped working altogether!

Since I’m running the open-source model on my own isolated server, there’s no international privacy risk—a nice bonus from needing to keep all my assistive technology applications private. So, here you are: the interface isn’t done yet, but here’s free DeepSeek r1!
It’s genuinely impressive how energy-efficient it is—using about as much energy as a ceiling fan. That fits perfectly with my motto: accessible, ethical, and actually useful AI.
Later in the day, I took some time to integrate my own network of models into a mini-expert system with DeepSeek to create… well, not exactly a web search tool. Maybe something between Perplexity and Quora? Watching it work is fascinating—it’s also starting to show elements of my broader Dreamwalker system. For example, the “Belter” (a middle manager model) coordinates a swarm of “Drummers” (smaller language models) to report back to “Camina” (the directing agent).
That’s a lot of words to say: look at this! Plug in something interesting. It’ll probably be wrong, but it’s fun to watch it think. And hey, it was a two-hour project—plenty of room to improve!
Fun stuff. And it’s amazing to now be able to do so much with language models in a way that’s ethical, practical, accessible, and - gotta keep saying it - actually useful.
I’m going to start posting more frequently—I’ve got a lot to share after several months of working under the radar. Honestly, I’m fighting the urge to dump everything I’ve been working on here all at once.
But in short, there’s a growing demand for a private, ethical, and energy-efficient way to use AI—not to mention accessible AI, with all the benefits language models can bring to accessibility. I wouldn’t call this a “business” just yet, but for $5 a month, I’m already able to offer a pretty slick set of tools. Check it out, stay tuned, and—most importantly—let me know what you would like to see. My best ideas lately have come from building custom solutions for individual contracts, and that’s where my focus has been.
